Oh The Humanity

We live in a fast paced world. We get in our cars every day and speed off down the road to do our daily duties, hardly ever taking the time to stop and smell the roses. If we do stop to stare out our car window, it’s usually at something shocking, tragic, or not worth looking at. I guess it’s our nature, but I’d like to think we are more than that. Every day we drive past a handful of wonderful things, not noticing the beauty we are missing.

Today I was getting gas at the Albertson’s at 12th and Greenhurst. I noticed that something had traffic at a standstill. Remember, we always look when traffic is stopped. It’s our nature.

There were lines of cars stopped going both ways on Greenhurst, and the traffic coming out of the Albertson’s parking lot was also backed up.

Then I saw it, the situation. The reason we all stop and take a look. A mama duck, towering over a group of ducklings was shuffling her children across the street. This “mama” had stopped the rat race. In a matter of two minutes, she made a group of many people stop in their tracks, relax, take a breath, and enjoy life.

No one sped by. No one honked their horn. Every car I saw had people looking out the window at the group of ducks, just going about their day.

My daughter squealed and we grabbed the camera. By the time we got in camera range, the ducks had made it safely across and like that, poof! rat race returned.

The mama had safely guided a group of young ducklings across one of the busiest roads in Nampa and shuffled them on to the bank of the creek that runs in front of Albertson’s, all without ruffling any one’s feathers.

This article is really about nothing, but if you took five minutes to read it, relax, look at my photos and smile, then it did what I intended for it to do.

Hunting Season is Here, Our Town Nampa Has Proof

I was cruising down 12th Avenue Road today, minding my own business. I pulled up to the light next to an old timer in a white pickup. That’s not too out of the ordinary. But I can tell you this, you can tell hunting season is in the air.

Hunting season is when every local in our state adorns their head with the official hunting head gear, a camouflage base ball cap. Hunting season is when you see men wearing overalls to Walmart to shop for shot gun shells. Hunting season is when you see groups of men push a cart through the grocery store and fill it full of every food and drink that their wives wouldn’t dare let them have, if of course, it wasn’t hunting season. It’s a yearly right of passage.

But here’s a new one. Apparently, hunting season is when you attach a mechanical plastic buck with a big red bull’s eye on its belly to your trailer hitch and connect it to your car battery. When you drive down the street, its front hooves go up and down. It was the funniest thing I have seen in Nampa, Idaho in at least a week!

I would love to know where that guy found that mechanical deer. I’m sure I’ll see a lot more wackiness before November and December, but thank goodness I had a camera phone with me. This is classic. Happy Hunting Season!

Nampa is great!
Nampa is great!

Ideally what I had in mind when I took on this adventure, would be to make a place where a person could stop - one time, and get everything he or she needs off the net. Life is so short, and we spend more and more time online surfing the internet. Let's lessen the internet time we use searching for things to be with our families. I would love for you to come to Our Town Nampa and find your local news, national news, community and civic news, special announcements, coupons, discounts, sales, etc. Everything good about being in the city of Nampa is always a plus as well.

Do you have a Mom's Group? a Scrapbooking Club? a 4-H Group that you want to tell people about. Send your submission to Our Town Nampa. We want people all over to envy the way of life we have here.

Did you see something funny the other day that you took a picture of? Submit your photo to Our Town Nampa. Make someone's day by putting a smile on their face.

Lastly, make sure your submissions adhere to OurTown's usage policies. We are a family friendly site. No one wants to see that screwy stuff anyway, right? :)

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at editor@ourtownnampa.com.

Have a super day!
